Administration
Dear Discovery Families,
Thank you for being part of the Discovery community. Whether you are a long-time family or just joining us, we are grateful for the trust you place in our school and in the people who work with your children every day.
Discovery has been built on a simple idea: when families, students, and staff work together, children do better in school. That partnership is at the center of what we do—inside the classroom, on the playground, and throughout our campus.
Our Structure and Leadership
In lieu of a traditional principal, Discovery has an Academic Program that is led by Mr. Hunter focused on preparing students for the next steps in their education as they look forward to their upper elementary and high school years.
We are also fortunate to have Mr. King serving as our Dean of Students. Many families know Mr. King from his nearly ten years at Discovery, in roles such as athletic director and teacher. His long-standing relationships with students and families, and his understanding of the school’s culture, help us maintain a caring, consistent environment.
Safety, Care, and Continuous Improvement
The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We work every day to make Discovery a place where children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Some of the steps we have taken include:
Establishing measures around school uniforms and clear book bags, which support a safe and orderly learning environment.
Physical improvements that have and will occur this school year include: a fenced playground area and parking lot updates including added stop signs and speed bumps.
These are not just projects; they reflect an ongoing commitment to providing a secure, welcoming space for every child.
Staying Connected
Clear, consistent communication is an important part of our partnership with families. Published several times throughout the school year, our newsletter offers a look into daily life at Discovery. Each issue highlights our programs, staff, events, media coverages, and student experiences.
Our upcoming newsletter will provide information on how to contact us with story ideas, family highlights, or requests for interviews. If you have a positive story to share or would like to discuss a possible feature, the newsletter will point you to the best way to reach our communications staff.
Looking to the Future
We are proud of how far we have come as a community and clear about the work still ahead. Together, we are:
Strengthening teaching and learning,
Investing in safe and supportive spaces,
Building strong, respectful relationships between home and school.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Discovery and for the part you play in our students’ success.
We look forward to continuing this work with you throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
Educationally yours,
Sharlynne Cloud
